Bay of Fires Conservation Area
With its immense orange lichen-covered boulders burning richly in the early morning sun, the East Coast Bay of Fires is one of the most spectacular places to watch sunrise in Tasmania.
Its white sandy beaches and shallow lagoons are a haven for scuttling rock lobsters and crabs, backed by picturesque bushland as far as the eye can see. There are a number of campgrounds where you can open your tent to a sunrise view, or the 4-day guided Bay of Fires Lodge walk is a more luxurious option, traversing the coast on foot and kayak by day, and bunking down in cosy lodges with gourmet Tasmanian wine and produce by night.
