Tasting Trail Tour
Discover the award-winning produce of Tasmania’s North West on the Tasting Trail, which takes in some of the region’s best cellar doors, farm stalls and artisan cafes. Whether you’re after small-batch whisky, gourmet cheese or wilderness-sourced honey, there’s something for everyone.
Our Tasting Trail Tour allows you to select the producers you are most interested in, then let us take care of the rest. We’ll create an itinerary to suit your desires (taking into consideration opening times and driving routes), then transport you there from one of the region’s main towns.
Spend the morning sampling hazelnuts, freshly roasted coffee and handcrafted chocolates before moving on to a lazy farm lunch or an afternoon tasting beer, wine or spirits. We offer both a half day tour and a full day tour.
Please note that we only visit members of the Tasting Trail. Pick-up is available from Devonport, Burnie, Sheffield, Latrobe and Deloraine or other locations in the North West of Tasmania.

Booking the Tasting Trail Tour is very easy, just email with your dates, number in the party, pick up town and time you want to start and for how long. If you have specific producers you want to visit please put in the email. All the producers are listed below, they are not all open all the time and depends on the day you want to book. Hazelbrae Hazelnuts
Hazelbrae Hazelnuts offers tastings of award-winning hazelnuts, farmer-led tours and wholesome cafe fare set amongst one of Australia’s largest hazelnut orchards. Stroll through the fragrant rose gardens and enjoy wine with a view of the Great Western Tiers.
Western Tiers Distillery
Western Tiers Distillery crafts premium whisky using water sourced from the pristine Highland Lakes, plus a smooth and uniquely Tasmanian poitín. Join a guided tour to see their beautiful copper pot stills, which were handcrafted in Westbury, then sample their tasting menu featuring local produce.
Dixie Blue Gelato Cafe
Artisan gelato and delicious waffles (including vegan options) are made onsite at Dixie Blue Gelato Cafe using Meander Valley produce. Relax in the dog-friendly courtyard while soaking up the scenic views across the Meander River or experience the superhero-themed cafe.
Redbrick Road Ciderworks and Distillery
Redbrick Road Ciderworks and Distillery specialises in handcrafted ciders and perries made using all-natural ingredients (and no sugar) for a dry and cloudy finish. Learn about the traditional techniques employed by this dedicated family of cider makers while tasting the earthy flavours of Tasmania’s apples and pears.
Cycles @ The Empire Hotel
Occupying a heritage-listed building in the heart of Deloraine, this inviting eatery specialises in local produce, smoked goods and handmade desserts. Built around 1900, the Empire has long had a reputation for welcoming outsiders and continues that tradition today with welcoming hospitality and delicious cuisine.
41° South Tasmania
Nestled in native bushland, this ecologically sustainable aquaculture farm specialises in salmon that is reared without chemicals or antibiotics. Embark on a self-guided walking tour to explore the wetlands and spot resident wildlife, learn about the farm’s production of ginseng, then feast on hot-smoked salmon on the alfresco deck.
3 Willows Vineyard
This family-owned boutique winery specialises in cool-climate Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Sparkling Rose. Settle in for a tasting surrounded by the property’s rolling vineyards and accompanied by a delicious platter showcasing local produce.
Melita Honey Farm
Boasting one of the widest ranges of honey available in Tasmania, the Melita Honey Farm produces Tasmanian leatherwood, honey nougat and a rich honey chocolate paste. Aside from tasting all of their delights, you can watch the bees in action through the windows of the glass beehive and shop for honey-based skincare products and beeswax candles.
Wandering Trout Taphouse
Tasmania’s only off-grid brewery lies amidst the lush countryside of Mole Creek and proudly showcases handcrafted wines, ciders, gins, whiskies and rums. Taste some of their small-batch brews while enjoying the tap house menu, which focuses on locally harvested ingredients.
Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm Cafe
Offering a range of berry-inspired products around the year, the Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm Cafe boasts a picturesque lakeside setting in Elizabeth Town. Sample their hand-dipped, chocolate-coated raspberries or enjoy a meal featuring seasonal local fare before stretching your legs along the boardwalk.
Van Diemens Land Creamery
The Van Diemens Land Creamery creates artisan ice cream and gelato made with milk from cows that graze just down the road. This family-run business prides itself on having batches that go from cow to consumer in less than 24 hours, with more than 50 different flavours to choose from.
Ashgrove Dairy Door
This award-winning Tasmanian dairy offers milk, specialty cheeses and locally made gifts while being home to the “happiest cows in the world”. Learn about the dairy’s philosophy at the interpretation centre and watch the cheesemakers in action before feasting on a range of cheese-inspired dishes from Ashgrove’s paddock-to-plate menu.
Seven Sheds Brewery
Nestled in a hop garden in the heart of Railton is the Seven Sheds Brewery, which specialises in craft beer and mead. Grab one of their tasting paddles and settle in for an afternoon in the sun-drenched courtyard or take advantage of the cosy indoor space on a winter’s day.
The Truffledore
Nestled in the foothills of Cradle Mountain is The Truffledore, which is open for tastings and Hunt & Harvest tours. Join their harvester and dog to discover how truffles are unearthed (and hopefully find your own) before relaxing over a four-course, truffle-focused long table lunch.
Prickly Mo
Offering cool climate wines and generous tasting plates is Prickly Mo, which is located on Tasmania’s beautiful Cradle Coast. Admire the rustic shearing shed and 120-year-old barn, then relax on the deck with a bottle of wine overlooking the vines.
Spreyton Cider
While Spreyton has been making fresh apple juice since 1998, their cidery opened in 2012 on a picturesque working orchard. Both their alcoholic and non-alcoholic ranges are made from 100% Tasmanian apples and pears and are complemented by an onsite food van and a children’s playground.
La Villa Wines
Set across five hectares, this family-owned boutique winery specialises in low-yield premium fruit and was inspired by an artisan adventure in Italy. Learn how the grapes are lovingly grown, pruned and handpicked before being crafted into premium wine, ready for you to enjoy.
House of Anvers
Occupying a 1930s California bungalow in Latrobe is this chocolate lovers’ paradise, which was created by Belgian-born Igor Van Gerwen. Sample their handmade truffles, fudges, pralines and single-origin chocolates while watching the confectionery artisans in action. Belgian-style breakfasts and hearty lunches are also served.
Ghost Rock Wines
This family-friendly winery boasts rolling lawns where the kids can run free while you enjoy a tasting at the cellar door. Soak up the stunning views across Bass Strait with a glass of wine in hand and a grazing board featuring local produce or coincide your visit with one of their live music events and degustation dinners.
Peter and Una Seafoods
Whether you’re a fan of flathead, prawns, blue-eye trevalla or scallops, you’ll find it at Peter and Una Seafoods. It was inspired by the couple’s lifetime dedication to Tasmania’s seas and commitment to sourcing the finest seafood the island has to offer. Local wines, platters and decadent sweets are also available.
Southern Wild Distillery
Drawing on the pure waters, rich soils and seasonal ingredients of North West Tasmania are the handcrafted gins of the Southern Wild Distillery. See their unique copper still designed by George Burgess before relaxing in the tasting room to try their gins infused with native pepperberry, lavender and wakame.
Turners Beach Berry Patch
Offering pick-your-own berries between October and May, this charming berry patch is the place to head for fruit-flavoured ice creams and quality Tasmanian ingredients. Throughout the year, you’ll find wood-fired pizzas and homemade jams, as well as a kid-friendly hay maze and a horse and cart photo mural.
Tasmanian Pickled Onions
Fresh onions grown on the North West Coast are transformed into pickled treats at this Ulverstone Factory. You can dine on hearty breakfasts and enticing lunch dishes at the Windows on Westella Cafe and Pickled Pantry, which stocks a wide selection of pickled onions, artisan foods and gifts.
Buttons Brewing
Established in 2017 to provide local beer to residents of the North West, Buttons Brewing now produces a tasty range of brews and regularly hosts live music sessions. At their restaurant overlooking the Leven River, you can sample limited release beers poured straight from the tank and accompanied by hearty burgers.
Cradle Coast Olives
One of Australia’s premier artisanal producers of extra virgin olive oil, Cradle Coast Olives nestles amidst a scenic grove en route to Cradle Mountain. See the pressing room in action before tasting their award-winning products, which include European-inspired varietals that are bursting with flavour.
Mount Gnomon Farm
Backed by the Dial Range, this beautiful farm serves up free-range charcuterie, pickled garden vegetables and local cheeses. Aside from touring Mount Gnomon Farm, you can try one of their handcrafted ciders produced from the heritage apple orchard and dine within the stunning barn.
Penguin Beer Co.
Overlooking the sands of Penguin Beach, this tap house and diner offers lunch and dinner six days a week. You can stop in for a tasting paddle of their signature beers or coincide your visit with one of the regular live music events that take place here.
Hellyers Road Distillery
Founded by a group of dairy farmers, the Hellyers Road Distillery was inspired by the spirit of explorer and cartographer Henry Hellyer. Tasting their award-winning, single malt whiskeys is a highlight of distillery tours, as is the opportunity to bottle and wax seal your own.
Infuse Coffee Roasters
Occupying a beautifully renovated workers’ cottage that dates from the early 1990s, Infuse Coffee Roasters serves single-origin coffees, award-winning blends and homemade biscuits. Watch the roasters at work and browse their unique range of alternative brewing devices, barista tools and coffee accessories.
The Chapel
Situated in a restored church that dates from the 1890s, The Chapel is a cafe, bar and live music venue in the heart of Burnie. Stop in for a relaxed meal, freshly roasted coffee or beer on tap while enjoying the community atmosphere.
Communion Brewing
As Burnie’s first boutique brewery, Communion Brewing crafts an enticing range of small-batch pale ales, stouts and raspberry milkshake-beer. Communion is all about bringing people together in a space that regularly features live music and boasts an indoor kids cubby house.
Guide Falls Farm
Guide Falls Farm is a place to experience, learn about and taste rural living while enjoying good old-fashioned Tasmanian hospitality. Join one of their guided family tours or book a table for lunch at Grazings, which highlights the best of the state’s produce, much of which is grown on-site.
Alchymia Distillery
Dedicated to producing the best small-batch gin and single-malt whisky possible, Alchymia Distillery opened in Table Cape in 2021. During a guided tasting, you’ll learn about their philosophy for using high-quality base ingredients and transforming them into handcrafted spirits.
Blue Hills Honey
Sample award-winning honey and mead at this Mawbanna-based producer, which has been working bees in the Tarkine wilderness for over 60 years. You can discover how honey is sourced in the interpretation centre and browse the honey-related products in the gift store or gaze out across the property’s orchards from the Colony Cafe.
KimchiME TASFresh Farm
Nestled in the forest overlooking Myrtle Grove Creek, this family-owned farm is run by Tom and Sue who offer hands-on kimchi-making workshops. Originally from South Korea, Sue makes delicious and organic kimchi that you can purchase on-site or from providores throughout Tasmania’s North West.
Hursey Seafood
This Stanley institution has been dishing up the freshest seafood for years, with everything from rock lobsters to scallops and oysters on the menu. Browse their large viewing tanks to see what’s been caught that day, then have it prepared just how you like it in the fully licensed restaurant. Classic takeaway fish and chips are also available.
Tarkine Fresh Oysters
Harvesting direct from the pristine waters of the Tarkine Wilderness, this ever-popular oyster cafe recently won silver in the Royal Hobart Fine Food Awards. Feast on a plate of natural or cooked oysters, accompanied by a glass of premium Tasmanian wine or local beer, then pick up oyster-inspired gifts in Tarkine Fresh Oysters’ store.
